Donald Trump likened the people who attempted to deface the Trump Turnberry golf resort to ‘terrorists.’ The act included red paint graffiti on the country club’s decoration, as well as damage to the course which had the words ‘Gaza is not for sale’ carved into it.
The US President said that the people responsible for the destruction at the resort in Ayrshire on March 8 should be ‘treated harshly’. There is a charging of a 33-year-old male in relation to the offense while a 75-year-old man and a 66-year-old woman were detained and then released while the police further investigated.
Trump’s Reactions on Social Media
Following a meeting with Sir Keir Starmer, Trump posted on his Truth Social platform and inaccurately stated that ‘three people were in prison’ as a result of the incident because they stated that ‘I was just informed by Prime Minister Starmer of the United Kingdom that the terrorists who attacked the beautiful Turnberry in Scotland have been apprehended.’ Trump further added his remarks with emphasis on the seriousness of the damage and the need to take stringent measures.
Background of the Incident
This vandalism was committed after international Trump had piqued interest with the suggestion of turning Gaza into a resort while getting into the Gazan territory, which would require displacement of the Palestinians.
He suggested that the United States may ‘seize control’ of Gaza in a meeting with Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu. Trump purchased Turnberry in 2014 from a group based in Dubai.
Police Scotland confirmed that the investigation of this incident is active, with the 33-year-old male set to attend the Ayr Sheriff Court.
